Louisville was incorporated as a city in June of 1882 when it started as a coal mining town. From the late 1800s to the late 1920s, there were around 30 mines in or around the Louisville area. All the mines closed by 1952. Louisville currently has the Louisville Historical Museum that shows the culture of the city when it first began.
